A ” This Is Your Life Jazzy 60 Scrapbook Cake” that went along with the Jazzy 60 Featuring Theolonius Monk cake. Pics are printed with edible ink. Both cakes were delivered to Washington, DC.
This cake was for a Jazzy ’60 surprise birthday celebration for a very special lady. She loves jazz and her daughter wanted to reflect that and some pics of her life in cake. The record player is made with all cake with the exception of the mechanics that allow the turntable to rotate. THAT’S RIGHT, ROTATE. The cake flavors are Carrot and French Vanilla with almond buttercream frosting.
I was excited about creating this Work Of Art. My customer wanted a cake that would combine her daughter-In-Laws birthday and Graduation with a Master’s of Science degree in psychology. I decided to do a scrapbook.
I did a layout on my computer with Publisher and emailed it to my customer. She loved the idea, so away I went.
Once I got the OK, I thought, why not use a scrapbook program for the layout, it would be easier to do and I could see exactly where everything was going to be placed and what it would look like, once completed.
The scrapbook is an 8″x8″ 1/2 chocolate and 1/2 vanilla cake with plain and chocolate mocha buttercream and covered with fondant. The customer sent me all the photos and I was to choose which ones to use. This was so hard to do, so I ended up using all of them — couldn’t help myself.
The pictures were placed on the cake going from her childhood days, high school graduation, meeting my customer’s son, getting married, having their first child, purchasing a home, pics of family and friends and on to her Master’s Degree.
The color scheme was hot pink, light lime green and yellow. All of the elements on the page were printed exactly as I had it laid out in the software. I put gumpaste rings in the middle of the book and painted with edible gold food coloring to like an album. Since there were more pics than could fit in the book, I made an extra page from gumpaste and printed out the edible sheet and placed on the gumpaste page. There is a poem in the center entitled “My World Is Different” which fit appropriately with the heading — “Every Ending Is Just A Brand New Beginning“. This made it look as if a page had been taken out of the album to be worked on. The pics around the bottom and side of the board are printed out with edible paper and placed on gumpaste, as well, making it look as if these pics needed to be placed in the album.
I was very pleased with the completed project. The customer saw the cake and was overjoyed, she didn’t expect the cake to have that much attention to detail. Her exact words were: “I have goosebumps”.
It really is a blessing to know that your customers appreciate you and your work and that they are very much satisfied with the end product.

This cake was made for my granddaughter’s 11th birthday celebration at Dave & Busters. She wanted this Aires Beyblade. What — what is a beyblade? There are so many different toys out now for children, I can’t keep up. If it wasn’t for my granddaughter telling me what these different toys are, I would be completely in the dark.
Anyway, she requested a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting (she just discovered that she loves red velvet), covered with MM Fondant. The other object (don’t know what it’s called) is made from modeling chocolate. The picture on top is an edible print.
I should have taken a picture of the components that I used to mount this cake on the board. I used a piping flange glued to a board, then inserted a dowel cut to the height that I needed to raise the cake up. On top of that, I cut 2 more boards that resembled a blade (similar to a ceiling fan blade). These were glued together and screwed to the dowel. The cake was placed on a foam board and then a cake board and mounted on top of the blade.
You can be sure when I arrived with the cake and gave her the top back that I had borrowed to go by, she immediately checked the cake to make sure it was exactly like the toy. I passed the test! Whew!
For a 2 year old boy’s birthday celebration. 1/4 sheet cake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream filling and buttercream. Cake is frosted with buttercream. Lightning McQueen is a frozen buttercream transfer. Sun and checkerboard are fondant accents.
Since my granddaughter loved bobbleheads ( 2 years ago), she requested this polar bear bobblehead cake. Using inspiration from a lady on the internet (can’t recall her name at the time), she so graciously gave me the information on the structure so that the head would bobble. I was so impressed with this cake when it was completed and to see it actually bobble back and forth.
I will try to list the instructions in the Techniques and Tools section at a later date.
It is a sculpted plain pound cake with whipped cream and buttercream filling. Frosted with buttercream and covered with MMF. The cake has all fondant accents.
YES, IT ACTUALLY BOBBLES!
This cake was made for a little girl who was celebrating her 1st birthday in 2008. Mom had a picture that she wanted the cake to be designed from. A 14″ — 4 layer strawberry cake with cream cheese filling and frosting. Fondant accents. #1 is fondant/gumpaste. Loved the color scheme.
Again the picture is not the best.
Another birthday cake for my daughter. 10″ square — 4 layer carrot cake with cream cheese filling and frosting and covered with MMF. Top of jewelry box is molded chocolate and mirror is poured sugar.
